The peak of the rut (when bucks are most active) typically falls within this time frame as well. Archery season usually opens first, followed by muzzleloader season and then general gun season.

Some areas also have a youth-only hunting weekend prior to the start of general gun season. The bag limit for deer in Texas is four per person per year, although only two of those can be taken during the general gun season. There are also restrictions on the types of weapons that can be used during each hunting season.

For example, archery equipment must be used during archery season, and muzzleloaders must be used during muzzleloader season (with certain exceptions). If you’re planning on deer hunting in Texas this year, make sure to check the regulations for the specific county or counties where you’ll be hunting.
